iMusic Tuesday: Tuesday, 26 October 2004

Searching the web today was just too much. Whilst searching VersionTracker for, well, anything, I am addicted you know, I came upon about 16-thousand-million different updates from Apple. Now, that in itself doesn’t mean all that much, they do it all the time.

But this bit of Apple’s OCD updating was different for me. You see, I used to have a gig at this place called TheMacSource.com. Not MacSource.com, the one with the ‘the’ in the title. And on Tuesdays I would have a piece called "iMusic Tuesday." What with there not being a theMacSource.com anymore, and me having all these things to talk about, and needing something to use this website-internets-thingee for, I’m appropriating it for myself.

Read on to be amazed…

OK, maybe I’m setting the bar pretty high for amazement, but if I get through this without litigation, I’m doing better than normal. So Apple, music, what’s the deal? First you tell us about that whole 300 free loops for the .mac peeps, and then you warn us about something special on October 26, or so.

So other than, ahem, some questionable musical decisions, ahem again, it turns out that U2 is involved with Apple in one of their musical endevours. One involving, get this, an iPod…yes, now Apple is in the iPod business. And now you can get one of them black iPods, just like all the cool kids.

Oh, and speaking of Apple iPods, you can now get one that does windows, if you will. Or even if you don’t.

Never mind.

The point is that you can now get your iPod with photos built in. That way you can get around to showing off your family photos in full 65,536 colors, with a 40 GB and a 60 GB model. Well, I’m sure that there’s a few thousand models, what with supply chain and so forth. But this tiny bugger keeps those thousand or so pictures of you posing with all them Elvis look-alikes ready for anyone foolish enough to ask for them. And it’s only 6.4 ounces!

So the old Apple Start Page couldn’t possibly give me anything else to work with, could it? Oh yeah, yeah it could. It could by way of iTunes 4.7 it could. What with there being a way to mess with photos now in your iPod, Apple figured you’d want to be able to mess with your iPod inside of iTunes. Oh, and since you can now mess with your iPod using iTunes in a bunch more countries, well, get to messing!

Okay, that’s it for this week. But if Apple decides to keep up this pace…well…there will be consequences and reprocussions!

And don’t forget the Free Download Single of the Week!
