Talked About Scene: Episode 105: TURN: Epiphany

I won’t sugar-coat this. Abe is completely out-of-line here, and acting unlike a man of his era. Funny how the lobster-back is the one with the strict moral compass, and how a school-trained man acts with such liberty.

While I understand there’s going to be a good percentage of people who would value love over responsibility, I have it on good authority that babies are only made one way. The nasty. And Abe, at some point, thought it perfectly in his right to do that with his friggin’ wife.

It’s difficult when you have somebody who you’ve been interested in for years be within your grasp, but being a man means living with the responsibility of your actions. Abe got cornered into spying on the British, but his hatred built his will to continue. He was blackmailed into working for Robert Rogers, so that wasn’t his will. Anything he does for, against, or to Mary and the Sprout is a direct reflection of his character as a man.

For a time when honor was a heck of a lot more important that it is today, Abe seems to swinging his around like a cheap strumpet near the saloon’s closing time. Puffing your chest out and fighting against ruthless oppressors (like the Strawman Regiment occupying Setaukut) is easy. Knowing that you can’t paw Anna when the cat’s away is something I would expect a gentleman would know to do.

To me, it seems like another anachronistic scene where Abe acts like an enlightened man of the 20th century. To be strait, I don’t deign to believe this show is any more historically-accurate than that show where Rick Grimes portrays that cop who led a group of survivors in the zombie apocalypse. But I’m worried they will cop to common historical drama tropes. There’s no proof they’ll ever get to that, but I worry, nonetheless.

This video makes me hate

Not anything in particular. I just hate everything right now. Because of this video.

Okay, maybe I hate this video. And just about everything else.
